The launch party for She Came To Stay was back in early March 2020, a good couple of weeks before we even knew what social distancing was. It feels like ages ago now, and I’m just thankful that we managed to squeeze in this great celebration.

About a hundred good friends and family turned up to Daunt Books in Marylebone – one of the most beautiful independent bookstores in the heart of London – to help me welcome the hardback edition into the world.

We drank, my editor, Thorne, made a lovely speech. I spoke for a bit and didn’t cry (though managed to make a few people rub at their eyes, apparently!) and we chatted for ages. And, of course, my amazing friends all bought the book (which, let’s face it, is the whole point). We then went on to the Prince Regent pub for more drinks, where this fantastic cake was revealed. Yes, it’s a cake! Two friends, Vicky and Nicole, had it specially made, and it depicts the cover, with Dina arriving at the train station, suitcase in hand. The following day I ate Dina’s face for lunch, and I’m here to tell you that it was delicious.
